Barbara Parks is founder of Green Career Tracks, one of the first green career services in the U.S., launched in 2004 to promote careers that support environmental, economic, and social justice.
She specializes in career coaching for people who want to work for a more sustainable future through conscious career choices and work opportunities in the growing green economy.
Barbara has a solid track record helping thousands of individuals--college graduates, first-time job seekers, dislocated workers, and mid-career changers--gain meaningful work in a changing and challenging economy and job market. She draws on 15 years' experience as a career and employment counselor for a jobs training program, corporate outplacement counselor, workshop facilitator, and instructional designer. She combines a background of corporate, non-profit, and entrepreneurial experience with a degree in Communications, Leadership in Public Policy training at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute, and certified training in spiritual direction.
More recently, Barbara wrote, developed, and now teaches Sustainable Career Planning, a five-week accredited online course offered through Minneapolis College of Art and Design's groundbreaking Sustainable Design Certificate Program. This unique program was designed to integrate self-discovery and career search strategy in the pursuit of a meaningful and sustainable career track
In addition to co-authoring the Complete Idiot's Guide to Green Careers, she has designed, produced and delivered green career programming for events and conferences such as the Living Green Expo, Northland Bioneers Conference, Solar Living Institute, Alliance for Sustainability, and DoItGreenMinnesota. Since the 2004 launch of Green Career Tracks in the SF Bay Area, Barbara chooses to live a green and holistic lifestyle in Minneapolis, Minnesota and spend time with Alexander, her grandson. She travels to the Bay Area several times a year to work out of her Fairfax office.
